The club hosts drop-in doubles on most Fridays from 7:00-9:30pm at the Colwood Church, located here. We use the south glass door entrance by the gym.
Colwood Church reserves the right to cancel the club occasionally to use the space for special events. Rarely there are days when none of the organizers are available. Please check the web site before attending to ensure there haven't been any last-minute cancellations.
All participants must sign in and make payment (if applicable) prior to playing. By signing in you are acknowledging that you have read and understood the guidelines on this page and the rules in place at Colwood Church.
Participants understand and agree that there is a possibility of physical injury, specifically including but not limited to head, eye, muscle and joint sprain and fracture injuries.
Despite our best efforts, participation also entails the risk of infection with COVID-19 or other diseases.
By signing in, participants assume the full risk and waive their right to sue and forever release the Colwood Church, Colwood Badminton Club and organizers from all liability, including all acts of active or passive negligence.
Masks are currently optional.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or any other transmissible illness, do not attend.
Due to the fluid nature of the pandemic, these rules are likely to change over time. We will attempt to communicate updates on this page as soon as we know them, so please check back often and be prepared to be flexible.
You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
Drop-in rate is $5 per person per night.
On rare occasion we may have to enforce capacity limits to comply with provincial health guidelines, reduce crowding and/or to maintain a reasonable amount of play time for participants. In such cases - at the sole discretion of the organizer - regular players who are present at the start of the night may get priority over guests or anyone arriving later.
No unsportsmanlike conduct, and no use of profanity. Players may be asked to leave (with no refund) if behavior is deemed unacceptable at the sole discretion of the organizers.
Shuttles are provided by the club. We use feather shuttles. Players provide their own attire (including non-marking indoor shoes) and rackets.
Most nights we play ad-hoc ("spin the racket" to make pairings) doubles games on the 3 available courts. There's flexibility to play more organized pairings as well as long as everyone is getting good chances to play. Occasionally when fewer people are present there are opportunities for singles play, but for the most part expect doubles.
